SEDONA, AZ

Sedona Hiking
•    Upon arrival, students will have the opportunity to explore the stunning red rocks that Sedona, AZ is famous for!  Our experienced Academic Expeditions guides will walk students through the Sedona sites to become oriented and prepare for the rest of the week’s hiking activities.

Sedona Jeep Tours
•    Students will have an opportunity to see the amazing red rock terrain that Sedona is known for in a guided jeep tour!  Expert local guides familiar with all of the history, ecology and geology of the Sedona area will lead Harker students through a truly educational and fun western experience.

THE GRAND CANYON, SOUTH RIM ARIZONA

IMAX Movie
•    Students will start their day at the Grand Canyon with a short film that shows the beginning of man’s relationship with the Grand Canyon - all 277 miles of it!

Hiking
•    After seeing the IMAX film, students will have an opportunity to hike through the Grand Canyon and experience it themselves!  Our guides will lead students through a slow paced hike to enjoy the views of the Canyon from different perspectives.

Grand Canyon “Rocks”
•    Organized through the Educational Department of The Grand Canyon, Park; Rangers will lead students through a geology focused program that will include hiking and hands on learning. 

MONUMENT VALLEY, UTAH

Mystery Valley Tour
•    First Nation’s Navajo tour guides will lead students through Mystery Valley in Monument Valley, UT.  Native guides will share with students their knowledge about Navajo culture while allowing students to hike and explore the Mystery Valley canyons.

The Navajo Way – Navajo Cultural Experience ~ Navajo Reservation
•    Hosted by the Moonlight Springs Ranch on the Monument Valley Navajo Reservation; First Nations’ Navajo educators will lead students through various activities teaching students about Navajo culture.  Students will learn about Navajo architecture, Navajo animals, Navajo cooking, Navajo art, Navajo weaving, Navajo family structure and more.  Students will also experience a traditional Navajo Ceremony with a Navajo Medicine Man.  This experience was specifically created for us in 2006 and the Navajo educators are looking forward to welcoming us again this year. 

PAGE, AZ

Glen Canyon Dam – Horseshoe Bend Hike
•    Students will have an opportunity to meet National Parks Service Rangers and learn about the Colorado River and Glen Canyon Dam Systems in Arizona. 

Colorado River Boat Float Trip
•    Students will slowly raft through the Colorado River while learning about local ecology, water systems and ancient archeology.

BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK

•    Students will hike through Bryce Canyon National Park with local guides who will teach and lead students through educational programming focusing on ecology and geology curriculum.

ZION NATIONAL PARK

•    Students will hike through Zion National Park with local guides who will teach and lead students through educational programming focusing on ecology and geology curriculum.
